Ok, I failed my February challenge.  To be honest, I’m glad to be done with that.  I was stressing out over something so silly.  I was utterly stumped at the photo challenge for the 24th.  You see, I have no cabinets in my bathroom.  Don’t ask me why.  The house came without and we just got used to it…

Anyway, it’s a new month and  I wanted to share some happenings here at Chez Mango.

Danny’s sister Rose and her daughter Desi were here last weekend.  Desi had a volleyball visit to a college in Lexington KY.  Rose wanted to see us so they flew into Nashville Thursday night and we all drove to Lexington on Friday.  It was snowing there.  Yuck.  The kids had fun.  The hotel had an indoor swimming pool. Their visit was good, but as always, too short….

On our way back from Lexington, we visited the Clarksville crew, Uncle Kris, Aunty Michelle and Stacie!  We hung out for a couple of hours then headed home.

We will see them again at Ty’s graduation.  🙂

2011 has been a rollercoaster of a ride for our family here.  It’s been sorta rough.  I haven’t been blogging much because of it all.  I’m glad to say though that the storm is calmer now that the year is coming to a close.  I’m hoping 2012 will be better.  More joy, more goodness, more celebrations, more love…..

I can’t quite share all that has happened but I will say that every family has their share of trouble and that it always, ALWAYS works out in the end.  I have faith that this new year will be a year of great things in all of our lives. I must have faith in that.

2011 was not all bad.  Tyler is in his last year of high school and his football team earned the district champion title by going undefeated all season.  A major accomplishment for the school.  They went all the way to the last round of playoffs.  We are so proud of Tyler and his team for that.

Bubba and Nate also had good football seasons.  Neither of the teams made it to Championship but both of my boys had awesome personal accomplishments playing the game.  I’m so proud of them both.

Lai is in Kindergarten this year.  She loves school and is doing extremely well in school.  I didn’t doubt that she would.  She’s growing up so fast.

Yesterday was my 2 year anniversary at my current job.  I can’t believe how fast time is flying by.  I have enjoyed working there and have grown to really love my coworkers.

DH is now on 1st shift.  After 10 years working the night shift, it is definitely an adjustment to say the least.  I do love having him home with us at night, as do the kids.  He picks me up everyday after work and we drive home together talking or just listening to music.  It is good for us to have that alone time together.  It’s like unwinding before getting home to prepare dinner, do homework, hang out with the kids, and getting ready for bed.

Here are some pics from 2011:

2012….. Here we go…..

From our house to yours….

Thanksgiving this year was at Mom’s again.  Mom made the turkey and I prepared the sides and meatloaf.  It was all so delicious!  Lloyda, Beto and baby Sofia made it to our feast, as well as Gordon and Leigh-Ellen!  I love Thanksgiving.  We played pool, took pictures, played with the baby, and just enjoyed each others’ company.  Jim had to work at 2:00, so he left at 1:30, Ty and Leigh left at 2:30 for a 3:00 dinner with her family.  The rest of us stayed and just hung out.  Ready for some pics?

On a somber note, Mt. Juliet lost their game Friday night.  😦  It was a packed house and we got there early to save seats and a lot of the family showed up (at least 20!).  It was an emotional night for us (Danny and me).  It was Ty’s last game on that field, and it had to end with a loss.  A bad one.  The final score was 44-10.  Tyler seems okay with it all.  He left it all on the field.  My boy played his heart out.  The announcer must have said his name 15 times.   I REALLY wanted a win for him.  But life goes on.  And we learn valuable lessons from situations like these.  He’s grown up a lot.  I can tell by the way he came off the field and all the things he said after the game.  One big thing that stuck to me was him saying the he felt bad only because he broke his promise to Bubba.  I told him not to feel bad about that.  According to Bubba and me, Ty did fulfull his promise.  He did his best, the rest was out of his control.  He is such a good big brother……

Anyway, on to some pics of the some family in attendance.

The troublemakers: Sulu and Joleen

Eli and Josh. Growing up too fast.

You can see how crowded the place was in those pics.

The rest of the weekend was pretty chill and had NOTHING to do with Black Friday.  Like laundry, movie-watching, cuddling with the kids, knitting, reading, Christmas decorating (yes! I have the tree up!), sleeping, eating, and just hanging out.  My kind of weekend.

How was your Thanksgiving weekend?  I hope you got to do the things you love 🙂

Well, it’s the last day of May folks.  June is here.

It’s been a crazy busy month for us.  We went out of town for two graduations, celebrated Mother’s Day and our 17th wedding anniversary.

Pictures?

Here you go….

image

image

Went out with cousin Elaine and her DH Kevin a couple of times this month.  We had a blast.  Elaine is a dancin fool!

image

image

Mother’s Day was spent with the family.  I went to lunch at Cheddars and watched a movie.  Rio for the kiddos and Water for Elephant for DH and me.

image

image

Lots of family time.  I love it!

image

Ty had 2 scrimmages this month.  One against Centennial HS, we won 28-0.  And the other game was the inner squad game black against gold.  That ended with a tie score.

We drove to South Carolina to be a part of Markita’s graduation.  Of course, we made our usual stop at the welcome center in North Carolina 🙂

Abby’s baby Kingston.  Isn’t he adorable?

The graduate.

We even got to spend some time with Folole, Rick and the kids.  It was also an excellent time to introduce Mem to them since they are probably the only polynesians in that area.

image

image

Our wedding anniversary was last Wednesday, while we were in SC.  We went out with Aunty Mem that night to celebrate.  Good times 🙂  DH had the DJ play our song for the final song of the night “All my Life” by KC and Jojo.  I cried while we danced.  So sweet.

image

image

This past weekend was Stacie’s graduation in Clarksville.  Jay and Dee flew in from Arizona to be here for it too.  It was an awesome time with family.  Tyler’s gf Leigh-ellen also came along.  Everyone got on the dance floor Sunday night at Stacie’s Aiga.  DH had the DJ play our song again and we slowdanced all by ourselves.  😦

I wished the night would never end.

I hope your May was a good one too.

Here’s what we did to Kim’s pictures for April Fool’s Day:

image

LB found pictures of “people of Walm*rt” and placed them over Kim’s niece and doggies pictures.  Hahah!

Any awesome pranks pulled today?  Please share.

Lai is FIVE!!!!

Happy Birthday, my sweel angel.  You have been such a blessing to us.  Especially me.  I thank God for you everyday.

She loved her cake.  Thank you Daddy!

We had her party at Two Rivers Park on Saturday.  It was a beautiful sunny day, windy and 60 degrees. Perfect for some outside play.

Are you ready for some cuteness?

This is the hat I knitted her last year.  It still fits her.  So adorable.

NACCCHHHHOOOOOOO!

We FINALLY found a luchador mask to buy him.  And when he saw it he begged and begged until we gave in.  Bubba got one too.

And here’s Ty with his Laker shirt and matching purple shoes. 🙂

Monday, Lai and I went out with these two lovely ladies for a girls’ day out.

image

image

We watched Gnomeo and Juliet.  We loved it.  I highly recommend it.  Here’s the trailer:

The rest of the 3 day weekend was spent shopping and just hanging out.  DH was off both Friday and Saturday so it was awesome being together as a family.

How was your weekend?

~L

I’m a simple girl, with simple joys.

I love:

image

Cuddling with my little people while knitting and watching TV.  Especially after a long day at work.

image

Playing at the park.

image

Seeing joy in the faces of my kids.

image

Eating out with my family.

image

Funky nail colors.

image

Coffee and donuts.  DH and I ran errands one day (sans kids) and had Krispy Kreme and flavored coffee.  I love moments alone with my hubby even if it’s doing something mundane.  He’s always been my best friend and I’d like to keep it that way.

image

Eyelashes on cars.  Makes me smile everytime I see it.

image

Snow covered landscape.  This is my backyard a couple of weeks ago.

image

Hanging out with friends.  This was taken last Friday at Chili’s after work to celebrate my birthday.  Meet Alicia and Holly.  Aren’t they purtee?

What makes you happy these days?

~L

Here are my knits modeled by their new owners:

Kim’s neice and nephew.  Aren’t they cute?

My girl, Caroline 🙂

I love seeing my knits out in public on an actual person.  And I love that the people I knit for really love and appreciate it.  It gives me such a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.  I love that feeling, don’t you?

~L

This past weekend my dear, sweet DH had to work both nights, so we spent our time watching movies and hanging out at home.

Sunday night, though, we attended the annual knitters/train crew Christmas party at Chris’.  Here are some pics:

It was a nice evening with good friends and good food.  We played dirty Santa and took group pictures.  It was so good to see everyone.  I really miss riding the train everyday.  And I miss getting to see my friends on a daily basis even more.  I will try to ride that train again.  But first, I must teach Ty to drive so he can drop me off at the train every morning.  sigh.

How was your weekend?

It never fails.  Every year for the last 4 years, I spend all of summer hardly knitting a stitch.  But when autumn arrives, I get the urge to pick up those pointy sticks and knit again.  I guess I’m not the only one.  It’s hard to knit in the heat.  For me, the yarn makes me sweaty and icky.  No likey.

Anyway. the tradition continues.  We get a couple of cold spells come through town and I felt the need to make myself something warm and cozy.

I made a neckwarmer!

image

Excuse the blurry pics.  I took these at work on my cell.

image

image

Basically, I just cast on 28 stitches on big (size 10) needles and knit garter until it wraps around my neck loosely then bind off and sew the ends together to make a tube.  And Voila!

image

As soon as I finished sewing the ends together, I cast on for another in cream.

image

I have also been wearing the cozy/holder I knitted for my Zune.  It’s so handy.  And stylish!

image

The gals at work love my knits too.  Here are Robyn and Yvette wearing the hats I made them for their birthdays:

image

image

See how happy they are 🙂

I have 6 projects to knit for Christmas (for other people).  I have less than 3 weeks .  I better get crackin, huh?

Have a great weekend!

~L

This past Sunday, I was able to hang out with some of my favorite polynesian ladies to celebrate Folole’s new blessing, a baby boy due in January!

image

The dynamic Trio!  Iva, Ano, and Alice.

image

The guest of honor (bottom right) with her baby sister (top left) Edwina and her mama (bottom left), and the boss – Joleen (hehe).  Edwina and mama were here visiting for Thanksgiving.

image

Folole and Sulu put together these beautiful gift baskets to give to each of us.  You can’t see it, but behind the card is a box of MACADAMIA CHOCOLATES!!!  Awesome!

This one’s Ano’s.

The gang’s all here.

It was so nice to hang out again.  I even met a new poly princess.  She actually gradutated from my high school!  She was a couple of years before me.  Small world.

I’m looking forward to another gathering.  They are too few and far between.  I need my Poly-fix more often then that.

🙂

Last Saturday, Pele met her daughter.

Let me introduce you to baby Izzy:

Born 11-13-2010 at 7lbs 7 oz. 21 inches, healthy, and beautiful.

She’s got ALOT of hair…

Just like Daddy.

Congratulations Pele!  We love you.  Can’t wait to meet the little lady in person.

Welcome to motherhood.

Whew! What a weekend!

IHOP with my crew on Wednesday night:)

Friday MJ played Smyrna at Smyrna and lost.  The final score was 37-20.  Our boys put up a good fight and I’m so proud of them.  They were heartbroken though. 😦

Saturday was Bubba and Nate’s games in Brentwood.  I dropped DH, Bubba, and Ty at 8 am to get on the Charter bus for a fancy ride to the Championship.  At 10:30, I dropped Nacho off.  Here are his teamates lined up on the fence waiting for their bus:

image

image

NATE’S PEE-WEE TEAM WON THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP!! It was an exciting game.  They won in the last 4 seconds of the game.  Our little guys were so awesome!  I’m so proud of all of them.  It’s so amazing to me that my little Nacho is a champ for his first year playing football.  We are so happy!

Bubba’s game:

Family and friends were able to make it to Bubba’s game (they were also there to watch Eli play)

Kim, Lori, and Jessica

Kortney, Kallie, and Kate.

image

Ieti, Eric, and Joe.

image

Mira and Lai were so creative collecting leaves and using them as pompoms.  So adorable!

image

image

DH, Bubba and the team lost 33-0.  It was devastating.  😦

There’s always next year.

image

Ty spent the night at Brannon’s house to celebrate B’s birthday.  Ty’s such a goofball!

image

L-R: Shelby (Brannon’s gf) Jill (Brannon’s mom), Ty and Brannon.

Sunday: We spent Sunday relaxing and recooperating.  We ate JITB (and got free shakes!) then watched 2 movies.  I took the kids with me to Wally-world where they played with the toys and the video games while I grocery shopped for the week and DH stayed home to sleep.

How was your weekend?

~L

One year ago today I was with my sister when they said they could do no more.  I was there when she held him as his heart slowed to a stop.  I was there when she screamed in agony.   I was there as the nurses cried and all the other little babies in the NICU went silent.  Like they knew the angels were there to pick up our little Kit.  I was there.

Hold your little ones extra tight today and pray a little prayer for my sister.

Thank you.
