I told you last post what the plan was for this past weekend.  How did it go?  I guess it was half done.  I did knit, only a little, and I did sit around quite a bit, and my room’s still a mess and the laundry’s doubled in size.  So there’s that.

Bubba’s team lost to Bordeaux and it was heartbreaking.  The coaching staff (hubby included) along with all the kids were spent after the game Saturday.

The Varsity game the night before was also another disappointment.  I must tell you though, that Ty’s teammates and coaches are a classy bunch.  I am so proud of them and the way they handle themselves on and off the field.  I am so glad that Ty was able to go to M.J.H.S.  They have chapel on the days of their games and the boys get along so well.  It’s kinda cute watching them goof off together.  And, get this, my son says that they tell each other “I love you” on a daily basis.  Isn’t that adorable?  Anyway, the team they played Friday was rude, cocky and unrefined.  I was embarassed for them.  It goes to show how important a good head coach/principal/teacher is to the future of our kids.  My hats off to all those people making a difference (a positive one) to our children’s education and school experience….

I’m rambling.  I was up late last night, or rather early (in the morning).  Stupid me decided to watch a movie at midnight, because I thought I would fall asleep and at least have watched part of it.  But I got hooked and ended up watching the whole thing.  It was Drillbit Taylor.  You know, the one with Owen Wilson as a  bum who gets hired by 3 kids as their bodyguard.  It was cute.  I liked it.

I didn’t bring the camera again.  I know, I know.   So no pictures.  We did go to a birthday party yesterday and got to hang out with some friends we haven’t seen in a few months.  That was nice.  We spent a couple of hours in the park in the shade watching the kids play from our lawn chairs.  It was sunny and a breezy 80 degrees.  Beautiful.

That’s all.  I brought some Ho0dia to work with me but forgot to take some earlier.  I don’t want to chance it and take one now and be up all night again.  I’ll have to wait til tomorrow to try the stuff.

Here’s an old pic for a smile:

This is how I feel today.

This weekend I plan to be sleeping and doing much of nothing.  I plan to be well-rested and relaxed.  I plan to play with the kids and let them be kids.  I plan to be stress-free.  I plan to be knitting.  I plan to not raise my voice.  I plan to be kind and empathetic.  I plan to have coffee on the deck.  I plan to let the mess be messy.  I plan to let the laundry just sit there just one more day.  I plan to sit with my honey and shoot the breeze.  I plan to spend a few moments with my mom.  I plan to make it a habit.  I plan to just be.

I’ll let you know how the planning pans out.

Have a great weekend.

Knitting.

Finding little or no get-up-and-go these days.  Coffee does nothing for me.  Comtemplating taking some Ho0dia for the energy boost it claims to give.  It’s pretty pathetic, really.  Yesterday, no lie, I was outside for some fresh air after lunch and one of the guys at work was telling me a story of some sort and I was literally falling asleep.  I was consciously, mentally telling my eyes to stay open.  Everything dude was saying was drowned out in my head by my internal voice yelling “WAKE UP!”  AND, get this, I was standing!  Now, that’s sad.  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

Anyway, I’m fighting the urge to start another pair of socks.  Regan, my dear friend, bought me a skein of some newly-in-stock sock yarn from our LYS.  Yes, BOUGHT it for ME.  So sweet and I’m so grateful.  I had to make a quick stop last night to buy one more skein to finish my legwarmers and Sherry, the store owner, presented me with said yarn and emphasized that Regan bought them “with her own money”.  I am not worthy.

I really miss Knit night.  5 more games, then I can rejoin the crew.  I keep hearing things from my train friends and via Ravelry of knit-night and inside jokes I am not privy to, because of not attending.  *sigh*

Working mostly on the baby hat and booties, trying to find the right needles and pattern for a scarf in team colors, almost halfway done on the second legwarmer, and too many unfinished projects hiding in baskets, purses, knitting bags that will probably never get done.

Oh, well.

Bubba will be having his first sleep over tomorrow night.  Two of his team-mates are coming over after school tomorrow.  I’m excited for him.  He has been on his best behavior all week anticipating the event.

Lai is getting to be quite a talker.  She doesn’t have as big a vocabulary as Nacho, but she sure is getting her practice.  She has to repeat herself alot and often times re-phrases things, then gets irritated and goes to someone else to try and explain herself.  Bless her heart!  It’s too cute.  Watching TV or having a grownup conversation with her in the room is very trying.  We end up shushing her or yelling over her.   AND she sings.  Loudly.  She loves to sing.  She has 11 songs in her repertoire right now and is willing to learn any new songs we sing to her.  She is very fond of the Burnin Up song by the Jonas Bros.  and gets absolutely giddy over any songs with actions, like Itsy Bitsy Spider, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, and Patty-Cake.  I need to get my camcorder fixed.

Nacho has 5 memory verses memorized and numerous songs he sings throughout the day.  One particular day he was singing “Beautiful girl, I got you empanada, empanada…”  (Sean Kingston)  The real lyrics are: “You got me in denial, in denial…”  Also, “Oh, say can you see, by the Dom’s scary lice, what so proudly we held, by the twi-lice las leeming…”  I guess the song has something to do with lice.    Again, FIX THE CAMCORDER.  Or, better yet, buy a new one.  It’ll probably be cheaper.

Tyler’s struggling a little in Biology.  He spent over 2 hours last night on an assignment for Bio.  I never actually see him working on any other subject but Biology.  It is the advanced class and the teacher is very specific on outlines and layouts.  I keep offering my help, but he always refuses.  He’s such a big boy now.  Oh, and he finally has some leg hair! He was complaining since 8th grade that his friends were making fun of his hairlessness and accusing him of shaving, now he’s normal.  And, he has a mustache.  Aw, no more baby.  At least he still kisses and hugs me.  Tonight the Freshman team plays Lebanon High.  Wish you could come.

If you ever get a chance to check out my brother’s blog, please do. The link’s on my sidebar. He’s a brilliant writer and a good story-teller. Once, he entered an essay about my mom for a national Mother’s Day contest, and he won.

I. MUST. GO. TO. BED.

Good night.
Me @ work today.  (Red lips on a zombie)

And here’s a pic of me and baby girl last Thursday. You can see my brother in the reflection of my shades….

I called in sick yesterday.  I spent the day lounging and cat-napping.  The two little ones hung out with Mom for a few hours so I can have quiet time.  I thought I would feel recharged and energized today, but, no.  I still feel exhausted.  I was talking to a lady at work today and she mentioned something about her nutritionist putting her on some cleansing pills.  Supposedly these pills are to be taken every 30 days to flush out the toxins in your system.  Apparently red meat and pork eaters have a lot of poisons in their systems that are clogging everything and causing lack of energy, sluggishness, poor sleep patterns, etc.  Red meat and pork, poisonous?   I guess the meat has to be injected with stuff (preservatives and whatnot) to be FDA approved, but would the FDA approve poison?  I suppose I could do some research to see if this is true, but I’m tired.  I can barely function today, what with all the poisons and stuff in my guts and all….

Anyway,  this past weekend was great.  Both of our teams won (Tyler and Bubba).  The game at the new stadium was phenomenal.  I managed to take a few pics of that:

A packed house on the home side.

My guy on the side line (#32).

Bubba (gosh, he’s getting big)

FIREWORKS!  Everytime we scored, there were fireworks.  We scored 4 touchdowns! YAY!

After the game…

Tyler in his usual spot in the car (texting)…

Score: 24-6

Bubba’s game Saturday was a blowout.  We won 49-0.  We will be playing the silver division teams until playoffs.  This team was the first.

And, of course, some park fun was had (before it gets too cold)…

I have been knitting.  I’m almost done with the legwarmers for me.  And I’m starting on some baby booties and matching hat for a lady at the Quilting class.  Then I MUST start on my Christmas knitting.  I know, I know, I should have started already.  Can you believe we have 92 days left til Christmas?  ( 92 days, 7 hours, and 43 minutes to be exact, but who’s counting?) I better hurry it up.

Later.

:-)

Another week has passed.  Time is flying.  I don’t want to make time go faster, but this week’s ending has brought some relief.  It’s been a week of ups and downs

Me and Lai at the game.

Last night was a definite up.  Tyler’s team beat Gallatin. The same team that Varsity and JV could not beat in the last week.  It was spectacular.  19-6.  Tyler scored a TD and played all but 2 plays the entire game.  It’s so fun to watch my kid play and play well.   I wouldv’e never imagined that I would enjoy football like I do.

Gordon and Lloyda joined us last night, too.  Bubba, Nate and Lai took turns driving us crazy, running/climbing up and down the bleachers playing tag and fighting (and screaming), gladly no one was hurt. Good times.

Tonight Mt. Juliet Varsity will be playing Portland at the brand-spanking-new football field.  Mount Juliet High moved just a mere 3 months ago to their new campus (new building, new parking lot).  It’s a beautiful campus.  Everything’s new.  You can still smell the paint.

There’s going to be a tail-gating party at 5:30 and FIREWORKS!  We were informed via email instructing us to wear black (the team colors are black and gold) and to come to the tail gating for some hot dogs and hamburgers.  Have you ever watched “Friday Night Lights”?  The movie, not the TV series?  The small-town scenarios where everything’s closed because everyone’s at the game?  Well, it’s like that here especially in the more rural areas.  Clusters of small towns all over the south revolve around football this time of year, every year.  It’s like a community meeting, ‘cept everyone actually comes….  It’s so cool.  I’m nervous yet again for my son.  I guess it’s normal.

Knitting:

Working on these
I didn’t finish that baby blanket and I ended up giving her another baby blanket I knitted 2 years ago.  She loved it just the same. (It was actually alot prettier than the blanket I was working on).  I have a long list of things to knit.  Here are some:

Make some baby hats , baby hats , baby hats

Shawl.

cowl.

Hat

Scarf.

Oh, and I’ve learned how to hyper-link on wordpress.  Can you tell?

And another thing, the quote at the top?  Made me laugh at myself, because all my friends are normal.

Crazy runs in the family.

Have a great weekend.

L

I have notebooks worth of knit patterns. Some I have made up and some I adapted/modified from other patterns on the web, in books, magazines, etc.  Today I wanted to share one of my favorites.  One I totally winged after surfing the nets and finding these.  I whipped out 3 of these in the last three days.  They are super-fast and super-easy to make.  You can even adapt these to any yarn (worsted, sport, sock, dk).  If you are interested in a pattern for thinner yarn, just email me. lullettem(at)msn(dot)com.

Drumroll please.

May I present to you:

LITTLE LEGWARMERS

Sizes: To fit toddlers (12 mos – 3 yrs) and preschool age children (3 yrs – 5yrs). Numbers in parenthesis indicate the larger size.

Materials:

Yarn: Bollicine Holiday (less than one ball) or any bulky weight yarn.

Needles: US10 DPNs or 32″ circular or longer (for Magic Loop method) I used a 32″ circ.

DIRECTIONS:

Using long-tail cast on, CO 28 sts. (34 sts) Join in the round, being careful not to twist.  Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round. (I used the dangling loose end as a marker)

K1P1 rib for 1.5 inches, switch to stockinette.  Knit all sts until it measures 8 inches (9 inches) from the CO edge. K1P1 rib for 1.5 inches.  Loosely BO in pattern.

Tada!

That’s it.

Now put these on your adorable little person and enjoy the fruit of your labor.

(Photo taken indoors under fluorescent lighting)

I’ll get a photo of my little one in these and post it soon.

I don’t know if it’s the weather (we’ve been waking up to crisp morning temps here in TN) but people are so grumpy this week.  I was just emailing Regan and she was telling me of her woes this week and my previous post from yesterday was just as nerve-wracking for me.  Blah.

On my way home with Ty last night I thought of something my good friend Fia told me.  Actually two things:

1.  Stress is the sign of a person who doesn’t know to whom they belong.

2.  Each person you meet is going through some sort of battle.

It’s been helping me cope today.  I am not alone, and I should not worry or stress or fret.  God is in control.

My week is getting better already.

Not a good start for the week.  At 1:30 in the a.m. A*bleeping*. M.  Bubba woke up to stomach problems (translation: dia-frickin-rrhea!).  He was on the john for over 30 minutes.  Poor kid.  I gather it was from the two bowls of ice cream he and his daddy enjoyed earlier in the day (in my defense, I was out taking Ty to the library when all this fun was being had).  Because of this early morning fiasco, he was very very grumpy when he was awakened to get ready for school.  I had to call the teacher this morning and leave a warning message on her voicemail apologizing profusely in advance for the problem he will be causing in class today.  Ugh.  Mondays.

Work was also craptastic today.  I’m on a roll…

Anyway, on a better note, this weekend was a very good weekend, with the exception of Ty’s asthma/bronchitis attack (he was placed on some antibiotics and an inhaler, he’s ok).  Bubba’s team won against another gold team Franklin.  13-6.  He played an awesome game along with all his team-mates.  We are so proud.  Here are some pics from Saturday:

On Sunday, we cleaned house and relaxed. I took Ty to the library to do his homework while I perused the knitting book section.   Then went home to get ready for Gordon’s (little brother) big performance at the Rutledge.  It was a really REAlly good show.  Here are pics:

I drove with Mom to the show and was happy for the QT with mom.  I haven’t done that in a while and I miss her.  She’s back to working and I hardly see her any more…  :-(   It was good to chat it up with her again…

I also got to meet a few people I recognize from my brother’s Myspace.  I’m so glad my little brother is surrounded by good people.  I can worry less about him now.

The venue itself was impressive.  It’s no Ryman, but it’s a step up from his usual Cafe Coco.  I’ve never been to the Rutledge prior to this show, and it is definitely someplace I would go to hang out and watch live bands; although, I do admit going to Cafe Coco on a date night once last year.  Needless to say we didn’t stay long.  There was a punk band playing and we felt out of place whatwithall the college kids in their flip flops and casual wear and us in our Sunday dress. hehehe.  The Rutledge is on 4th and Gateway, 2 blocks from Riverfront Park.  Parking is sort of a pain (there isn’t any), but the place is very clean and not really bar-like.

That’s the re-cap.  I’ve cast-on for more projects (four in fact), and I will blog about those later.  AND I’ve been commissioned to knit some items for a profit (Hi Jess!)….  More on that later.

Like they say in the Mexico…. PEACE!

A conversation with my four-year-old:

Nacho: Mommy?

Me: Yes?

Nacho: Mommy?!?

Me: Yes?

*pause*

Nacho: Mommy?

Me: Yes?!? What is it?

*long pause*

Nacho: Ummm…. I love you!

Me: I love you, too.

I honestly think the boy forgot what he was going to say. He’s so darn cute.

Have a great weekend!

Even from large manufacturers, old car tires are being sold as new.  Tires over 6 years old are to be considered UNsafe because, even if they haven’t been used, the rubber dries out, and the tread can separate, causing fatal accidents.  This is a good example of being able to spread ‘practical physics’ to students.

There is a cryptic tire code on each tire that tells when a tire was manufactured: way at the end of the Department of Transportation (DOT) number.  ‘402′ would mean that the tire was made in the 40th week of 1992. ‘4002′ would mean it was made in the 40th week of 2002.  Both would be too old to drive on now, even if they’ve never been used.

Please watch the 9-minute video, check your tires, and pass it on.

Scary stuff, huh?

Tonight is another freshman game.  Thankfully it will be at home field.  I invited Brittany to the game. She says she will come.  The more the merrier.  That’s a party of 6 for Ty.  I’m hoping it’ll grow, the party, that is…

I miss Mikey.

Knitting socks and trying to get myself motivated to finish that darn baby blanket.

Watched “The Great Debaters” last night.  Good movie.

I’m a scatter-brain today.  I can’t focus on one thing longer than 2 minutes.  I guess it’s a good thing I don’t drive to work anymore…

Every Tuesday for over four years I have lunch with a fabulous group of older ladies in a quilting class at the art center here in the park. This quilting class meet every Tuesday during Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions. There are about 10-15 women ranging from 40 to 80 years old. They are crafty and can whip out quilts like there’s no tomorrow. I ooh and ahh at their work every week… I was pregnant with Nacho in 03 and Herbert introduced me to the class and they insisted I eat with them. Since then, I have given birth twice and they still feed me as if I am expecting. They are so sweet. And funny. My face hurts from smiling so much when I am around them. :-) It’s amazing how crafting and arts bring people of all sorts together. Anyway, I ate with them as usual (too much) and decided to walk back to my building instead of catching a ride back with Herbert. It isn’t far, maybe a half a mile or less and a little exercise won’t kill me.

It was a very nice walk. It was cloudy and the temperature was about 80-ish. Not hot, but not cold either. I stopped to admire the playground that was just renovated and found a drawing someone made.

It says “PEACE + LOVE = HAPPINESS”
Such wisdom from a child, if indeed these were by hands of a child…

Then, I stopped at the memorial garden.

Beautiful archways and stones with names etched on them. Names of children of City Park employees lost to some tragedy or another.
Then I came across some pretty magnolia trees.

A little red flower.
There are some beautiful things to see around you. You just need to get out and “smell the roses” so to speak. Go out and take a walk. You’ll be surprised by what you find when you take your time and look around. Slow down. Breathe. Enjoy life and the beauty around you.

It was a glorious weekend.  Ty’s win against Lipscomb on Thursday kicked off a winning streak.  Friday evening me, hubby and the 3 younguns drove up to boonie-ville (Springfield) to go to the Varsity game.  This place was in the jungle.  Waaaay in the woods.  Country.  The hicks.  We drove 11+ miles from the freeway to get to the town square (total 40 miles from home). And those 11 miles were a doozy.  Long stretches of nothing but farm country and light specks of houses and barns here and there.  Who would live out there?  Not I.  Since moving to the mainland (states), I have never lived more than 2 miles from a major freeway.  I cannot bear the thought of driving so far to get to “civilization”.  There were no stores on the way there, no gas stations, no fast food places, nothin!  Wow.  I guess you would have to plan a big trip to grocery shop and plan to buy for the month with extra, just in case.  Scares me.

Anyway.

It was raining and when we arrived (finally) it was the 2nd quarter and no one had scored yet.  We spotted Tyler on the sidelines and said hello.  We pretty much stayed under our umbrellas by the concession stand watching the game.  It was a good game.  We won 13-0.  Tyler didn’t get any playing time, but that again, was ok with me.  The drive back seemed quicker, as it always does, and we picked up our boy from the school as they arrived in the bus at 11:00.  We were pooped.

Saturday was Bubba’s turn.  This time the game was in Smyrna.  The park is 30 miles from our house,  just off the 24 freeway.  They played Smyrna (Champions for 2 or 3 or 4 years).  They are in the gold division (we are silver), which means they are at an advantage as far as the number of kids they have to choose from and the skill they have.  Our kids couldv’e been intimidated (as they usually are) but they weren’t.  DH and the head-coach Dave were in good spirits and that in turn, left the kids in good spirits.  Final score 13-6.  Very well done.  The kids played their muli’s off.  I’m so proud of them.

Sunday was family day.  Pool, Mcdonalds play place, a dvd at home, the usual.  This was my favorite day.  And here are the pictures:

The coaches and their mini’s.

Bubba before the game

Tyler was feeling under the weather (maybe from Friday night?) And doctors orders, NO POOL.

Awww.

Ty and I stayed under the HUGE umbrella and chatted.  I knitted and enjoyed watching DH and kids frolick in the pool.  As you can see, we were pretty much the only ones there.  I think it was due to the Titan’s game.

How was your weekend?

L

It’s raining today.  I like the rain when I am lounging at home in my jammies, but when I have to go to work, it kinda sucks.  This is sleepy-weather, hang-out-and-watch-a-movie-weather, knit-in-my-favorite-chair weather, cuddle-with-the-kids-weather, not get-up-early-get-ready-stand-in-the-rain-to-wait-for-the-train-weather. Blah.

I digress.  Last night was awesome.  Tyler scored a touch down (YAY!) and we won 42-6.  John K. and River came to watch.  Here are some pics from last night.

Thanks John for coming!

I have a ton of video that I captured on my digital camera, but I still don’t know how to upload them to wordpress.  Help?

Here’s the link to Ty’s schedule:

http://www.wcschools.com/mjhs/v2/sport-football.asp

I’ll add it to the sidebar too, so you won’t have to hunt for it.  I hope to see you there at one/some/all of the games.

Tonight Tyler will be playing for Varsity in Springfield.  I hope it stops raining.

Knitting:

I finished the “Pooling” socks.  I kinda like it.  I also finished a pinwheel beret for me and am working on the finishing the pinwheel blanket for Captain’s baby (I thought I was almost done with it, but decided to make it just a few inches bigger)…

See how they pool the green color in certain spots?

I have discovered that 1 ball of Fixation is enough for 1 knee-high sock in my size.  I love knee-highs.  I wouldn’t know what to wear with knee-highs, but I think they look pretty cool.

It’s Friday!

When somebody tells you nothing is impossible, ask them to dribble a football.

Tonight is Ty’s first real game where he’ll actually get to play.  The freshman team will be playing David Lipscomb high school which is conveniently located just a mere 4.2 miles from my work.  I’ll be heading there shortly.  Please pray for Tyler and me.  I’m a nervous wreck.

I’ll update you tomorrow…

L

Back to the grind…

This past weekend wasn’t as busy as it usually is this time of year.  Mainly because this year we only have 1 football game to attend on Saturday.  Now that Ty is in high school his games are Thursday and Friday nights.  The freshman team did not have a game last Thursday, but Varsity had one on Friday.  They played their rival team Wilson Central at Wilson Central.  Ty was 1 of 5 freshman who got to dress for this game.  Below is a picture of the team right before the game.   Ty is #32.  See how small my baby is amoung those upper classmen?  I was worried sick.  None of the freshman got to play because of the close score, and I was sort of relieved for that.  He wasn’t though…  They were tied in the fourth quarter with 3 minutes left.  Wilson Central managed to score 2 more touchdowns after that.  Ugh!  Very upsetting.  Final score: 39-27.

Bubba’s game Saturday wasn’t really any better.  I couldn’t find my camera so I have no pictures of Saturday and I would rather not revisit it anyway.  It was sort of lonely for me.  Nacho and I were the only ones in the stands rooting for Bubba (Ty worked the concession).  I wish my  crew were here… :-(   Needless to say they lost too.  For the first time ever, Bubba’s team was shut out.  27-0.  *sigh*  My poor guys…

Sunday was uneventful.  We went to the park and played with the kids and let them run around.

Tyler had practice on Labor Day so we had to wait til his practice was done before heading to Smyrna for Labor Day picnic.  We finally got there at 1:30 and met new people and hung out with family.  A good day…

Lai enjoying a chocolate cookie

TJ and Nacho discussing the laws of physics (hehe)

My guys after eating delicious food (chop suey, ribs, pineapple chicken, meatballs, chicken kabobs…)

Shana and Lai

Caleb and Ty

Elia and Lai dancing on the tables (so adorable!)

This boy knows how to pose for pictures.

Eva showing off her tricks.

Of course, they wanted to play with the balls too.

It was a good weekend.
